CLAY COUNTY, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating three crashes on Blanding Boulevard that closed lanes in both directions for three-and-a-half hours near College Drive on Friday night.
According to an FHP report, Bryant Alexander Copney, 22, was driving a white 2004 Mazda southbound on Blanding erratically at approximately 9 p.m.
The first crash the Mazda was involved in was at Blanding and Wells Road and the other at Blanding and Parkridge Avenue.
After the first two crashes, Copney was driving southbound on Blanding when he attempted to go around a silver Ford.
Copney's Mazda struck the Ford, overturned and Copney was ejected from vehicle, according to the report.
While overturning, the Mazda went into northbound lanes on Blanding and entered the path of a Chevrolet Trailblazer.
This caused the Trailblazer to enter the sidewalk on the east side of the road and the Mazda came to rest on its top in the center median.
The driver and passenger of the Ford had no injuries and the driver and passenger of the Chevrolet had minor injuries. Copney was transported to Orange Park Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Charges are pending further investigation, according to the report.
