ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. - St. Augustine woman died in a car accident on US1 Sunday.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Buick Century, driven by William Sopper, 84, was traveling southbound on US1 and turn left onto South Wood Lake Drive.
As the Buick turned it was struck by a Honda Accord that was traveling northbound on US1, overturning the Buick.
The St. Johns County Fire Rescue had to extricate both the passenger and driver from the overturned vehicle, according to Matthew Sara, SJCFR public information officer.
The passenger, 89-year-old Catherine Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sopper was airlifted to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition.
Anthony Gomez, the driver of the Honda, was treated at Flagler Hospital for minor injuries.
Troopers say charges are pending until further investigation.
