MIDDLEBURG, Fla. -- Details have been released in the death of a woman who died Saturday after her husband hit her while backing out of their driveway.

Brooks Collier, 52, has been charged with failure to stop at a crash involving the death of his wife Nola Collier, 58.

According to a Clay County Sheriff's Office arrest report, Brooks Collier was attempting to leave his home in a pick up truck in the 3400 block of Alec Drive on Saturday night during a domestic disturbance with Nola Collier.

He initially drove forward toward a person who was in his open garage. Nola Collier then tried to keep Brooks Collier from leaving and was standing between the open driver door and the body of the truck.

Brooks Collier then continued backing out of the driveway before Nola Collier could move, knocking her to the ground and then striking her with his front left tire, according to the report.

Witnesses at the house and neighbors attempted to help, but Nola Collier was pronounced dead at Orange Park Medical Center.

A deputy responding to the disturbance call saw a vehicle matching the description of Brooks Collier's pickup truck. The deputy saw the truck run over a concrete curb and later conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Blanding Boulevard.

The deputy noticed while talking to Brooks Collier "an odor of an alcoholic beverage" coming from him as he spoke. Brooks Collier verbally refused to have blood drawn for a DUI investigation, but allowed blood samples to be drawn.

According to CCSO call history records, deputies have been called to the Colliers' home 39 times since 2004 for incidents ranging from civil dispute, suicide threat, drunk person, theft and assault in progress.

Brooks Collier was also cited in Clay County in 2009 for reckless driving and fleeing/eluding law enforcement at a high speed.
