JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police have a woman is in custody after she reportedly shot and killed a man outside a Westside post office Sunday afternoon, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The shooting occurred in the parking lot of a post office located at the corner of Blanding Boulevard and Townsend Road.
According to Lt. Michael Eason with the Sheriff's Office, witnesses saw the woman and man arguing in the parking lot when she pulled out a gun and shot the man. The whole incident was also witnessed by a retired JSO sergeant.
After shooting the man, the woman got into a car and drove away. The retired sergeant followed her in his vehicle and called 911. He gave an emergency operator updates to her location.
Police were able to catch up with the woman at Timuquana Road, and pursued her for about mile until she collided with another vehicle at Timuquana Road and Seaboard Avenue. A mother and her children were inside of the vehicle that was struck by the suspect. Only minor injuries were reported in the accident, Eason said.
Officer arrested the woman after removing her from the car.
Eason did not disclose any information about the suspect's relationship with the deceased man.
