LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A prisoner is back in custody after a mid-morning escape Tuesday.
Edward Michael McMillan, 37 allegedly escaped from a work release program at the Department of Corrections Work Release Center in Lake City, according to Steve Shaw with the Lake City Police Department.
McMillan left the facility for his approved work furlough offsite around 10:30 a.m. and allegedly took off, according to Shaw.
Shaw said the DOC lost contact with McMillan, who was scheduled to return from his work furlough at 12:30 p.m.
The Lake City Police Department was called in to assist in a search for McMillan around 2 p.m., Shaw added.
According to Shaw, McMillan was located around 4:30 p.m. at the Mizell Funeral Home on Washington St. by an off duty DOC officer.
McMillan was serving a sentence for grand theft, dealing in stolen property and burglary charges out of Columbia and Hamilton counties.
McMillan was scheduled fro release on Nov. 16, according to the DOC website, but will likely face new charges related to his alleged escape.
