BRADFORD COUNTY, Fla. - A former Union Correctional Institute employee and child sexual battery suspect has been located in Puerto Rico and extradited back to Bradford County to face charges.

One of Bradford County's most wanted, Juan Oquendo Jr., 49, was picked up on a 12-year-old warrant, according to a release from the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.

Oquendo worked at the Union Correctional Institute, but resigned and moved away from Bradford County. About a year later victims, including minors, came forward claiming sexual abuse by Oquendo.

"Obviously any law enforcement officer when they hear this type of allegation it hits to the core of their being,"said Capt. Brad Smith of the Bradford County Sheriff's Office.  "Children being molested is just unimaginable."

Oquendo's whereabouts were unknown until recently when the BCSO received an e-mail message on the tip line of their website. The BCSO coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and authorities in Puerto Rico to detain Oquendo to have him extradited back to Bradford County to face the charges.

Oquendo faces charges of sexual battery upon a person over 12-years-old and two counts of sexual battery of a child less than 12-years-old. Once transported, Oquendo will be held in the Bradford County Jail on a bond of $100,000.
