ST. Augustine, FL-- A St. Augustine family finally has some closure in the death of their 18-year-old daughter.
Frederick Andrews, 52, withdrew his plea of not guilty and entered a no contest plea to DUI manslaughter in the 2010 death of Shae Burchfield. She was killed when the truck Andrews was driving collided head-on with her dirt bike.
Andrews was arrested almost one year to the day that she died.
In exchange for his no contest plea, he was sentenced to five years in prison, then ten years probation, with credit for time served.
Also, Andrews' driver's license will be permanently revoked.
"Put simply, this is just the easiest thing to do. It is the best for everybody. I don't think I could take a trial and just going through this today was very emotional for me, so I think we made the right decision," said Joseph Burchfield, Shae's father.
Shae's father and grandfather say they feel relieved it is all over and are ready to move forward, but Shae will never be forgotten.
