JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The family of the woman who died from severe burns from a brush fire has identified her as 58-year-old Mary Ann Gill. Her son says she was homeless and he believes she was living in the wooded area off the 5700 block of Arlington Expressway near Colcord Avenue.

He says she was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville to the burn unit, but died Sunday morning.

A motorist called in the fire on Saturday night. Melissa Settles says she is a nurse practitioner and works with kids in the area. She was driving and saw the brush fire. She called 911 and then noticed there was a person on fire.

She pulled out the victim and began trying to put out the fire. She used an extra shirt and some re-usable grocery bags to try and extinguish it. When Fire Rescue arrived on scene they took over.

The family says they are in communication with police and are working to find out if there was foul play or if it was an accidental fire.
