JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- 40-year-old Jerimy Smith pleaded guilty to attempting to murder his mother and stepfather. He also pleaded guilty to Grand Theft Auto and Petit Theft.
In February 2012, Smith crept into his parents' bedroom while they were sleeping and began to beat them repeatedly with a metal baseball bat. He had been released from prison four days prior to the incident.
After beating his mother, Mattie Smith, and his stepfather, Robert Bohannon, Smith stole his mother's car and crashed it about five miles from the home. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue responded to the crash and began to treat Smith. He fled the scene before police arrived.
Smith turned himself in the next day.
