JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville man and woman are behind bars on child abuse charges.
Tameka Williams, 27, appeared in court Thursday morning for the first time. She is facing a child neglect and child abuse charges.
Bacarius Burt, 37, was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon on a charge of child abuse and a charge of child neglect.
According to police reports, Williams and Burt bound and gagged a child on Jan. 11. The child is a four-year-old girl, according to John Harrell from the Florida Department of Children and Families.
Anna Jenkins is Williams' mother.
"I know, that she would never harm her kids," she said. "It hurts me to my heart. But me knowing her, I know there's no way she would tie her kids up."
Terry Dawson, Tameka's sister, insists Williams' is not the culprit.
"The children call him Mr. Reggie," she said. "And those babies are saying Mr. Reggie did that to them."
Police say they saw lines that looked scabbed over on the child's mouth, arms, wrists and body.
Evidence of trauma was also found on the child's behind.
Williams' bond is set at $500,003 for a child abuse charge and $250,003 for a child neglect charge.
If you suspect child abuse, you can report the incident right now to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
