JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A homeowner scared off two would-be robbers after they tried to break into his Gasparilla Park Ct. home Tuesday afternoon, according to a report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The homeowner told police he heard a knock at this door and when he looked out of a nearby window he saw a heavyset white male who appeared to be between 16 and 18 years old. He said he didn't recognize the young man, who was wearing a red sweater, and he chose not to answer the door.
Shortly after that, the homeowner reported seeing a shadow go past his daughter's bedroom window before hearing the glass shatter as someone broke one of the home's rear windows, the report says.
According to the homeowner, a second man entered his home through the broken window, and, out of fear, the homeowner fired shots from two handguns, a 9mm and a .38, at the suspect. The homeowner told police he wasn't sure if he hit the suspect or not.
Police later recovered a backpack and the clothing the homeowner told police he'd seen the second suspect wearing but, so far, officers haven't been able to locate the attempted intruders.
