JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - Two great white sharks have been tracked off the coast of Jacksonville Beach.

The larger of the sharks is Mary Lee, who is 16-feet long and weighs 3,456 pounds. Mary Lee did not come alone. A slightly smaller great white named Genie is also enjoying the warm waters of the Florida coast. Genie is only 14-feet long and 2,292 pounds.

After being tagged off the coast of Cape Cod, Mass., Mary Lee and Genie have headed south for the Winter, just like many of the snowbirds of the Northeast.

Mary Lee made stops in the waters of North and South Carolina before making her way down to Georgia and eventually ending up in the waters off Jacksonville Beach.

Sgt. Thomas Crumley with the Jacksonville Beach Police Department said Mary Lee actually entered the surf zone at 12:46 Tuesday morning, but at the time there were no swimmers in the water.

Genie, the second shark in our area, is about 40-60 miles off the coast of Jacksonville, Crumley said.

Tracking data provided by the Ocearch Global Shark Tracker shows that Genie headed straight south from Cape Cod towards Jacksonville Beach. The website tracks 36 sharks around the world.
