JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- This weekend at the Prime Osborne Convention Center students and parents will be able to view the magnet school options offered by Duval County Public Schools.
Called Magnet Mania/School Choice Expo the event showcases academic programs for the 2013-2014 school year according to a release for the event.
This is the first year of the School Choice initiative, according to the release, so every middle and high school will offer special programs specially designed to hone a child's special interest, talent, gift or skill to maximize their opportunity for success the release said.
The release said organizers expect between 7,000 and 8,000 parents and students at the event.
On hand at the showcase will be magnet programs, career academies, charter schools, high school acceleration programs and neighborhood schools for all grade levels.
Teachers, principals and students from every school will be available to speak with parents and students about academic options available.
The expo will run from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, January 12 at the Prime Osborne Convention Center.
Admission and parking for the event are free.
