JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Kiplinger's Personal Finance has selected the University of North Florida as one of their 100 best values in public colleges for 2012-13.

This is the second consecutive year UNF has been selected by Kiplinger's, according to a news release from Joanna Norris, public relations representative for UNF.

Norris said the ranking cites four-year schools that combine outstanding education with great economic value.

UNF President John Delaney said, "We take great pride in being nationally recognized by some very elite organizations for delivering an exceptional education at an exceptional value.  First-rate academic programs, amazing out-of-classroom experiences and affordable cost provide a value that is hard to beat."

To compile the list, Norris said Kiplinger's assess measurable standards including the admission rate, the percentage of students who return for their sophomore year, the student-faculty ratio and the four-year graduation rate.  Norris said cost criteria used to calculate the list includes low sticker prices, abundant financial aid and low average debt at graduation.

Janet Bodnar, Kiplinger's Personal Finance editor, said, "We applaud this year's top 100 schools for their efforts to maintain academic standards while meeting the financial needs of their students."

The annual rankings will appear in the February 2013 issue of Kiplinger's.  The issue will hit newsstands Tuesday, January 1, 2013 and will be available online now at

If you visit the web version, you will have access to features including an FAQ about how the public colleges are ranked, a slideshow of the top 10 schools and a tool that lets readers sort by in-state and out-of-state cost, average debt at graduation and admission rates.
