JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office charged Devonte Baker with murder after 2-year-old he was accused of abusing died from her injuries.
Police originally arrested Baker December 15 on charges of aggravated battery, according to a news release from Shannon Hartley, Public Information Officer for the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Police charged Baker with aggravated battery after he brought 2-year-old Brooklyn unresponsive to St. Vincent's Hospital.
Originally Baker told police the girl fell in the shower however doctors at the hospital found the girls' injuries to be inconsistent with Baker's account of what happened.
Hartley said December 18 Brooklyn Sanchez died from her injuries.
December 22, Hartley said the Medical Examiner determined Sanchez's death was caused by blunt force injury.
Police charged Baker, who is still in police custody from the previous charge, with murder Wednesday.
