JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- "This is what we kind of live for," says FedEx courier Michelle Murray as she begins her workday.

They may not be Santa's elves, but the FedEx employees are working just as hard this holiday season. Monday is their busiest shipping day of the year.

"Sometimes we look a little frazzled, but I would think that is what Santa's elves look like," says Murray with a laugh.

Michelle Murray has been a courier for FedEx for 24 years and says all employees know they will be working long hours around the holidays when they sign up for the job.

"There were some years that we were out there at Christmas parties delivering," tells Murray.

As packages fill up the conveyor belts at the FedEx Express on Salisbury Road in Jacksonville, company-wide between Thanksgiving and Christmas FedEx will be delivering around 280 million packages. Nineteen-million of those will be delivered on Monday.

"That's why we call it peak season, this year we are actually up 10% from last year," said FedEx Senior Manager John Briscoe.

What is also up is their teamwork, something that Michelle Murray says is essential to get through the busiest day of the year.

For the United States Postal Service, its busiest day is December 17 and it will move around 650 million pieces of mail that day alone and UPS says its busiest day is December 20th.
