TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Have you seen Florida's proposed designs for the state's new license plate?
The proposals are leaving a lot of Floridians underwhelmed.
A new contest is under way encouraging Floridians to vote for their favorite license plate design on a state website, www.vote4floridatag.com.
But the four proposals are not generating much excitement yet. As one viewer told us, she's very unimpressed and will vote for the "least unimpressive."
Now a Tallahassee marketing firm is offering its own design as an alternative. Kevin Cate says he thinks Florida can do better.
Cate created a model with design team squarefactor that includes sun rays, a Florida orange and the web address for Florida's marketing agency Visit Florida.
"We're talking about the Florida brand and on a license plate. It's one of the most abundant mediums we have in Florida for advertisements and branding. So why not put Visit Florida on there to showcase our businesses, our restaurants, our hotels. This is something that's very close to all of us because it hits home with jobs," said Cate.
Cate said, honestly, the state's designs look as if they come right out of the 1980's and he says folks on social media sites are really bashing the proposals.
"People hate them. If you look at any social media, any kind of comment section on news websites that have posted it, they say it's bland, or use other choice words. But we've had an overwhelming positive response for our license plate and it's something we think the state should take a serious look at."
Cate says he's offered the idea to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the agency has agreed to take a look.
