TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida is moving to redesign its license plate and you have a chance to help pick the winning design.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has unveiled a new website where you can vote for your favorite design.
The website, www.vote4floridatag.com, shows four different license plate designs. They're similar in that each one features seven bold, black letters and numbers with a space in the middle. But each has a slightly different coloring scheme at the top and bottom with variations of green stripes or accents.
Florida wants to change its license plate to make it more readable for police and cameras. The state loses millions of dollars a year at tolls and intersections when cameras can't read the plates of offenders.
The contest gives Floridians a chance to pick the state's next license plate.
"People are very passionate about their license plates. So we hope this will make them feel involved and be involved in the future because these license plates will be out there for a long time and we want people to be happy with what's on their car," said Kirsten Olsen-Doolan of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
Olsen-Doolan says Florida will offer the new license plate with no new fees.
The contest runs through December 14.
