PALM COAST, Fla. -- One person was killed and another critically injured Thursday after an early morning house fire in Palm Coast.
Firefighters responded to the home located at 8 Floral Court just after midnight. One of the home's residents, 88-year-old Edith Moss called 911 to report the fire. A release from Debra Johnson, Public Information Officer with the Flagler County Sheriff's Office said sheriff's dispatchers told Moss to evacuate the home but she told them she could not.
The Palm Coast Fire Department said when firefighters arrived at the home they were told two elderly residents were inside.
Firefighters searched the home and found Edith Moss in a back bedroom. Johnson said firefighters found her husband, 95-year-old Nathaniel Moss in a bedroom located behind the garage.
Firefighters believe the fire started in the home's garage.
Rescue personnel took Edith to Flagler Hospital but she died while en route. Nathaniel is being treated at Flagler Hospital for smoke inhalation.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what caused the fire.
