GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A "routine" traffic stop by a Gainesville Police Department officer resulted in the arrest of a man with a $1 million bond.
A release from the Gainesville Police Department said an officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle.
The officer checked the vehicle's owner who was not present at the time of the traffic stop. When he did he found out the car's owner, 31-year-old Lindsey Wanton, had an active warrant out of Jacksonville. For $1 million.
The release said the warrant for Wanton was for smuggling cocaine and conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
Police followed up on Wanton's whereabouts and found him at his home.
Wanton was arrested and will be extradited to Jacksonville.
The police department said this is an example of how there is no such thing as a "routine" traffic stop.
