JACKSONVILLE. Fla. -- Bakery union members are going on strike across the country, including at the Merita plant in Jacksonville.

The B-C-T-G-M union is striking against Hostess and its partnering brands because of recent changes to the union members' contract.

The strike has reportedly shut down major production plants across the nation, according to the bakery union's web-page.

In Jacksonville, some members employed at the hostess facility went on strike Saturday.  Employees around the U.S. are also striking.

The union's website says the strike is in response to the company's "unilateral imposition of a horrendous contract that was rejected by 92 percent of B-C-T-G-M workers in September."

A source close to the local Merita plant, says the facility bakes bread, Little Debbie snacks, dinner rolls, and Twinkies.
