MAYPORT, Fla. -- Lots of pride and joy today as more than 5,500 sailors and Marines serving on the USS Enterprise came to Mayport.

"My dad spent 20 years in the Navy and I'm very proud of my daughter, who is aboard the Enterprise at this time," said Loretta Parsons, the mother of sailor.

This is her daughter's first mission ... and the Enterprise's last.

"They know it's the end to an incredible era. 51 years young."

During her more than half-century of service, Big E as she is called made her mark in history.

"It's really awe-inspiring, is the first international crisis for the Enterprises was the Cuban Missile Crisis," said Cpt. Doug Cochran, Commanding Officer at Mayport.

In the 70s ... it was Vietnam. More recently, Operation Iraqi Freedom.

And, her last mission, 7 months in the Mediterranean and Arabian seas. This is her last stop at Mayport

An exciting and bittersweet day for those who serve and have served on this the Navy's first nuclear powered aircraft carrier ... Big E.
