GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- The Gainesville Police Department is seeking a "person with knowledge" in a homicide that happened early Friday morning.

According to GPD, a 911 caller reported that the unidentified victim, a black male in his 50s, was laying face down and a white male was going through the man's pockets. The victim later died at Shands at UF.

The white male -- who is described as 5-foot-11, large build with a bald head and wearing a flowered shirt and khaki pants -- left the scene before officers arrived. This man's involvement -- as well as that of a white boxy van that was nearby -- is not yet known.

Another white male is being sought as a possible "person with knowledge." He was seen in the frame of an ATM surveillance photo at the same time as the victim. So was a dark Chevy conversion van, according to GPD.

It is unknown at this time if this "person with knowledge" is related to a van that was also seen in the surveillance images.

If anyone has any information in this case, they are asked to call GPD at (352) 955-1818 or call the Alachua County Crime Stoppers at (352) 372-STOP (7867).
