JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested a 44-year-old man on charges he stole flowers from grave sites to give to his girlfriend.
Sunday evening an officer with JSO saw a man, later identified as Davis Lee, walking towards the front entrance of Evergreen Cemetery, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The release said the officer saw Lee carrying three bouquets of flowers with fresh soil falling off the bottom of the bouquets.
When questioned by the officer as to where Lee obtained the flowers, the release said he replied he "ripped them out of the soil next to a tombstone."
The release said Lee told police he did not own the flowers and did not know the person buried at that location.
Lee then told police he stole the flowers so he could give them to his girlfriend.
Police arrested Lee and transported him to the Duval County Jail.
