PALM COAST, Fla. -- Police arrested a couple wanted for a Palm Coast burglary Monday. Police believe the two may be tied to as many as two dozen burglaries over the past six months.
The burglaries occurred in a three-county area, said Debra Johnson, Public Information Officer for the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.
Flagler detectives are working with detectives from St. Johns and Volusia Counties to clear the burglary cases. Johnson said there at least 24 burglaries in the three counties.
Flagler Sheriff Donald W. Fleming said, "Simply put: This couple made their living off stealing from other people."
Detectives arrested 36-year-old William Fulkerson of St. Augustine. They are still questioning 28-year-old Carmen Kilgore, who is a transient.
Johnson said the two are suspects in a burglary to a home on Covington Lane in Palm Coast on October 5. Friday the Flagler County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video asking for the public's help in identifying the two burglars.
Monday morning Flagler deputies saw an SUV matching a vehicle description from the surveillance video.
When deputies tried to stop the SUV on North Parkway Drive in Palm Coast, Johnson said the driver fled from deputies, traveling through Palm Coast at speeds between 30 and 40 miles per hour.
Johnson said the SUV fled north to Cypress Point Parkway to Walmart to Cypress Edge Drive and then eastbound on Palm Coast Parkway until they got to the northbound on-ramp for I-95.
Deputies damaged two of the driver's side tires when they deployed stop sticks on Cypress Edge Drive.
Johnson said the SUV was traveling at 70 miles per hour on I-95, riding on two rims and two tires.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office helicopter, Fireflight, assited with the pursuit, giving law enforcement location and direction of travel.
Flagler deputes were joined by troopers from FHP and St. Johns County deputies in an effort to get the car to stop. The SUV then left I-95 and got onto U.S. 1 north and then got onto SR 206 east.
Once the driver turned back onto U.S. 1, St. Johns County Sheriff's Office deputies were able to get the vehicle to stop, Johnson said, by using stop sticks.
Police charged William Fulkerson with felony fleeing and eluding a police officer and criminal mischief. Detectives were still interviewing Carmen Kilgore.
Johnson said both are facing additional charges in Flagler, St. Johns and Volusia counties.
