NOCATEE, Fla. -- Valley Ridge Boulevard, the roadway into Nocatee, is a busy and a concern for runners and bikers.

"I have the right of way as a pedestrian, however, if we collide I'm going to lose," said Janet Maynor

Maynor, who makes a living keeping railroads on the right track, said she has been trying to get someone to address a problem on Valley Ridge Boulevard.

"My husband and I run at five in the morning when it is dark," she said.

The road has a number of street lights and you would think running in the dark would be perfectly safe, but Maynor says it is not.

She has been counting and said many of the lights simply don't work.

"There are at least 35 of the street lights out," she said, "a little creepy, dangerous and a lot of spider webs."

She was told the lights belong to Florida Power and Light so she contacted them.

"I've sent emails," she said, "They have acknowledged they have a ticket that it will be fixed in two weeks. It never has."

Maynor said there is simply no excuse for how long it is taking to address the problem. Being the early morning runner that she is, Maynor is trying a different route until the lighting on the route she prefers to use is in working order.

"I'd like it fixed," she said, "This morning I went a different path and all the lights are functioning."

David McDermott with Florida Power and Light said they tracked down the complaint and the lights are not in his service area. He said they may belong to Jacksonville Beach Utility.
