JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A fatal crash involving a motorcyclist shut down Baymeadows Road at Interstate 95 Friday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Numerous emergency crews responded to the scene just before 5 a.m. Steven Lamar Jones, 25, of Jacksonville, was a motorcyclist killed in the crash.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Jones was traveling eastbound on Baymeadows Road in the center lane. Anthony Frank Stachowski, 70, of Jacksonville, was turning left onto westbound Baymeadows Road from the I-95 northbound exit ramp.
Stachowski had a green traffic signal while Jones had a red traffic signal. He failed to stop and his Suzuki motorcycle collided into the left side of Stachowski's GMC pickup truck, according to the report.
Jones was pronounced dead at Orange Park Medical Center and Stachowski was transported to Baptist Medical Center South with minor injuries.
Witnesses at the nearby Shell gas station said it appeared the motorcyclist may have been eluding police when the motorcycle was hit by a truck, but that is not confirmed by officials.
Most of Baymeadows Road at I-95 was blocked for about three hours as investigators worked the scene.
