Dr. A.P.J. Kalam speaks to Indo-US Chamber

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- It was an historic visit to the First Coast. Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, a former President of India, visited the University of North Florida Monday night.

It's the first time any president or former President of India has visited Jacksonville. He spoke to a crowd of over 400 people at the University Center on the campus of UNF.

UNF President, John Delaney, introduced Dr. Kalam. The event was structured to honor Dr. Kalam's countless accomplishments. One of India's foremost scientists, Dr. Kalam has been a strong advocate for young people and has made strides in advancing scientific education in his home country.

"Public-private partnership is one of our biggest strengths, " said Jacksonville Mayor, Alvin Brown on the city's partnership with Indo-US Chamber of Commerce.'

Dr. Kalam covered many topics ranging from technological innovation, leadership, parenting and the environment.

The development of today's youth and education were two topics of importance to Dr. Kalam.

"The primary education, the classroom should be creative. The teachers should be creative ... You want creative schools."
