Yulee RB Derrick Henry verbally commits to Alabama

YULEE, Fla. -- Yulee High School running back Derrick Henry announced that he will be playing college football at the University of Alabama.

Henry made the announcement in front of a packed gymnasium at Yulee High School. The announcement was also broadcast live on ESPNU.

Henry has the second-most career rushing yards in the state of Florida's high school football history. Last week, he set a state record for most rushing yards in a single game with 502.

Tonight, Henry and the Yulee Hornets host Glades Day School in a game that will be televised live on ESPNU at 8:00. Glades Day is led by running back Kelvin Taylor who has the most career rushing yards in the state of Floirda's history. Taylor is verbally committed to the University of Florida. He is the son of former Jaguars running back Fred Taylor.

Derrick Henry plans to graduate high school early so he can enroll at the University of Alabama in January. In the summer before his junior season, Derrick verbally committed to the University of Georgia.  A year later, he decommitted from Georgia after taking a visit to Alabama.

Henry cited the tradition of winning national championships and the tradition of producing great running backs as to why he chose the Crimson Tide.
