Gold medal winner Kerri Walsh Jennings revealed on NBC's Today show that she was pregnant while competing in beach volleyball at the London Olympics.
Jennings, who won the past three gold medals in the sport with partner Misty May-Treanor, told Matt Lauer that "when I was throwing my body around fearlessly, and going for gold for our country, I was pregnant, and today I'm 11 weeks pregnant."
Jennings and her husband, Casey Jennings, have two sons, Joey, 3, and Sundance, 2. The volleyballer said she knew something was up because "I'm a pretty happy girl and I was unreasonably moody.
I thought it could have been the stress of the Games, and travel kind of throws your schedule off, but I knew. At some point, you're late and then you start feeling something. And I definitely started feeling something in London."
Dr. Nancy Snyderman, NBC's chief medical editor, said there was no danger in Jennings competing and that "the risk that she put to herself and the fetus was zero to none."
