LUBBOCK, Texas -- On Wednesday, KCBD Newschannel 11
obtained dramatic dash cam video of an accident that shows a Lubbock
Police officer saving a woman from serious injury or death.
Early Monday morning police responded to a
minor car accident on 19th and Memphis Avenue. Officer Philip
Standefer,26, was standing on the concrete median talking to a woman
when a van smashes into his squad car. Police say Peter Keltz, 23, was
driving that van drunk and too fast.
The video shows Officer Standefer quickly
jumping into action and pushing the woman out of way as the squad car
comes flying toward them. The mangled squad car continues to hurl
forward hitting another car and then nearly hitting a second police
officer on the scene.
Officer Standefer suffered serious injuries,
but has since been released from the hospital. The woman got away with
only a few scrapes and bruises.
Keltz was arrested that night and he is
charged with DWI and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon. He remained behind bars on Wednesday with a $55,000 bond.
