ORANGE PARK, Fla. -- An early morning fire at the Island View Baptist Church in Orange Park is said to be the work of an arsonist.
Orange Park firefighters went to the scene at 900 Park Avenue after the church's fire alarm system went off around 3:40 Sunday morning, according to the Orange Park Fire Department.
Firefighters found a wing of the Sunday school building filled with heavy smoke.
They were able to put the fire out in about 20 minutes.
The damage is estimated to be $35,000.
A person suspected of starting the fire was found hiding outside of the building. The Orange Park Police Department took him into custody.
The Town Fire Marshal's Office, the State Fire Marshal, ATF and the Orange Park Police Department are investigating the fire.
