JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A Jacksonville mother was Baker Acted and arrested on three counts aggravated child abuse Saturday by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO was called out by a worker from the Department of Children and Families to a residence on Moncrief Road after receiving an alert about the wellbeing of three children inside the apartment.
When a DCF worker was unable to get anyone to come to the door, she called the police at 5:30 p.m., according to a release from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.
Police made several unsuccessful attempts to get someone to answer the door, Bujeda said. Officers were able to locate four people inside of the apartment, which were apparently unconscious on the floor.
A sergeant with JSO eventually lifted a window and yelled at the four individuals. When they were unresponsive he entered the apartment.
Officers found them still breathing and were able to wake them with gently shaking.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called and transported the mother, Liara McGlothan, and her three children to the hospital, according to the release.
A child told police in the hospital that it was given three red vitamins by McGlothan last night, said Bujeda. Another child told police it received five white pills that tasted nasty and was told they would sleep for a long time by McGlothan.
JSO says the three children are in the custody of DCF.
