BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- An autopsy will be performed Tuesday on a man found dead by his own vehicle Monday morning along I-95 in Glynn County.
Richard Hollis, 49, of Jacksonville was found dead when police were called by a passerby to the area where his vehicle was just east of the Interstate 95/Georgia 99 interchange, according to Det. William Tomlinson.
Hollis retired a month ago from Bubba Burgers, where he was vice president of operations, according to our Florida Times-Union news partner.
Police believe Hollis was traveling north on I-95 and got off at exit 42 (Georgia 99) and stopped after his car had a flat tire.
County Coroner Jimmy Durden says around 5:30 a.m. a 911 operator was driving to work on Highway 99 and saw Hollis outside his car with his trunk up and a tire on the side of the road.
His body was found about an hour and a half later.
The coroner says it appears he was shot and confirms his wallet was missing.
Hollis's son believes his father was robbed.
Police want to talk to the driver of a maroon vehicle that may have been in the area. Anyone who may have information is asked to call Glynn County Police Department at 912-554-7817 or Silent Witness at (912) 264-1333.
