JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol said a pedestrian was hit and killed after he ran into oncoming traffic on Blanding Boulevard Thursday morning.
The fatal crash happened before 4 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Blanding Blvd. at Youngerman Circle, when FHP officials said a man, who was not carrying identification, ran west to east across Blanding.
A female driver hit Robert Douglas Leibrock, 38, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver sustained minor injuries.
All northbound lanes of Blanding Blvd. were blocked for more than three hours as the investigation was underway.
Blanding Blvd. at Youngerman Circle is a very highly traveled intersection. It's the fourth most dangerous intersection in Jacksonville due to the high frequency of crashes. In 2011, JSO responded to 94 crashes there.
