JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Sheriff John Rutherford says more than 90 officers' jobs are saved.

Tuesday evening, Jacksonville's City Council voted to award the Sheriff's Office $10.5 million for next year's budget.

Rutherford said the money will save a number of officer's jobs and keep the Matrix House open, a drug treatment center.

The Sheriff had originally asked for $6.1 million back from the City Council that he had turned over as a surplus from the 2011 fiscal year.

The City Council instead approved a substitute bill to give an extra $4.4 million to JSO, totaling $10.5 million.

That substitute bill was passed by a vote of 14-4.

While the JSO officers and the Matrix House employees will keep their jobs, the Community Service officers were fired Friday and will not get their positions back.
