ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that happened Monday morning near one of the entrances to Pedro Menendez High School.
A 2001 Ford F-150 being driven by 22-year-old James Cannady Jr., was westbound on State Road 206 around 6 a.m. Monday, according to a crash report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
At the same time, a 2005 Nissan Frontier being driven by 42-year-old Christopher Trubelhorn was also traveling westbound on State Road 206.
The truck, which was behind the Nissan Frontier, hit the SUV from behind, the report said, for unknown reasons.
The force of the crash caused the Nissan to lose control and overturn.
The report said after the crash, the Ford ran over a stop sign near one of the entrances of PMHS and then fled the scene.
The Florida Highway Patrol said they found the Ford F-150 abandoned off of State Road 206 a few miles west of where the crash occurred.
Cannady received minor injuries in the crash. Trubelhorn was taken to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition. Trubelhorn was not wearing a seat belt.
FHP said charges in the crash are pending.
