JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki will visit the Clara White Mission on Wednesday to share his goals for ending veteran homelessness by 2015.
Shinseki, who is scheduled to be accompanied by Congresswoman Corrine Brown and Congressman Ander Crenshaw, will tour the facility, talk to veterans and hold a press conference.
Along with ending veteran homelessness, Shinseki's priorities include eliminating the disabilities claim backlog and increasing veterans' services and benefits, according to a release from the VA.
Jacksonville recently received $1 million in grant money to prevent veteran homelessness in the city. The money was part of a $100 million nationwide grant, which was awarded under the Supportive Services for Veteran Families.
There will be 430 homeless and at-risk veteran local families will be assisted by that grant, and the VA also works with HUD to provide vouchers for more than 200 veteran families in Jacksonville.
