JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office has released the name of a driver killed in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 2:20 a.m. Sunday morning in the 6600 block of New Kings Road, according to a news release from JSO Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda.

Bujeda said 68-year-old Ralph Young was driving southbound on New Kings Road near the intersection of Richard Road when a vehicle approached him from behind and hit him.

The force of the crash caused Young's vehicle to hit a tree. Bujeda said he was pronounced deceased at the scene. A passenger riding in Young's vehicle was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 2001 Buick LeSabre, left the vehicle at the scene of the crash and fled on foot. Bujeda said a possible suspect has been identified and located and that this is still an active investigation.

Anyone with information about this crash, or anyone who may know who was driving the Buick LeSabre, is asked to please contact the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or via email at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
