Fallen JSO motorman laid to rest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Fallen Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Motorman Douglas Parsons has been laid to rest.

Officer Parsons, 45, died of natural causes Monday, August 6 at his home, according to a news release from Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Melissa Bujeda..

Parsons was with the sheriff's office 16 years and worked as a traffic officer.  In addition to his service as a deputy, Parsons also served seven years in the United States Navy.

The funeral for Officer Parsons took place Monday, August 13 at the North Jacksonville Baptist Church located at 8531 North Main Street.  Services were scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Parsons was later honorably laid to rest at the Jacksonville National Cemetery located at 4083 Lannie Road..

Bujeda said, "Officer Parsons' untimely death is a tragic reminder that our time together is precious.  he was a beloved husband and father, as well as a respected law enforcement professional and friend to many.  His passing is a loss to this city, our agency and many of us personally.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and Doug's many colleagues and friends in our JSO family.  Please join us as we keep the Parsons family in our prayers."
