5-year-old Jenoa Alford, son of Jacksonville Sharks defensive back, still recovering in hospital after being hit, dragged by car

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A 5-year-old boy who was struck and dragged by a car in an apartment complex Saturday is still recovering in the hospital.

Jenoa Alford was riding his bicycle in the Canopy Apartments on Monument Road near Regency Mall around 8:30 p.m. Saturday night when he was struck by a car in the parking lot.

Witnesses say the boy was pulled underneath the car and dragged for approximately eight parking spaces until Jenoa's mother was able to stop the vehicle.

Jenoa was taken to Shands Jacksonville in critical condition Satuday night.

Jenoa's father is Bill Alford, a defensive back for the Jacksonville Sharks.

The Alfords say Jenoa has made some progress since being taken to the hospital but he still has a long road to recovery. The boy has made improvements in his speech and movements.

On Friday morning, 99.9 Gator Country will be at Mimi's Cafe at the St. Johns Town Center from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. collecting donations for a fund to help with medical expenses. Members of the Jacksonville Sharks will be also be there signing autographs and to support their teammate. The exact location has not yet been announced.
