PALATKA, Fla. -- Officers with the Palatka Police Department were originally responding to a man who was trying to kill himself, instead ended up having to tase and arrest the man.
Officers were dispatched to a suicide attempt in the 1400 block of Laurel Street around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Palatka Police Department.
Police were told 31-year-old Charles Malone had taken a large amount of medication in an attempt to take his own life.
When officers arrived they found Malone standing in his front yard. Malone was holding a knife, which he used to threaten officers, according to the release.
Malone was tased by police multiple times while continuing to be combative with officers.
Malone was eventually subdued and was then taken to Putnam Community Medical Center to be evaluated and treated.
The release said the Palatka Police Department forwarded four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer to the State Attorney's Office.
