ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- A man who decided to spray paint the word "MINE" on city owned dumpsters and private property has found himself facing 16 charges of criminal mischief.
The State Attorney's Office filed the charges against Alexander Ackermann.
The charges allege Ackermann vandalized numerous city dumpsters and other pieces of private property, according to a news release from St. Augustine Police Department Public Information Officer Mark Samson.
Samson said all of the graffiti was done on Davis Shores near Ackermann's home.
Detectives with the SAPD interviewed numerous victims and witnesses before confronting Ackermann with the accusations against him.
Ackermann originally agreed to go to the police station to be questioned, but instead invoked his constitutional right to remain silent.
Samson said the SAPD enjoys a strong working relationship with its communities that make up St. Augustine, and that like with other graffiti cases, it was information obtained from their citizens that allowed them to follow-up and ultimately file the charges against Ackermann.
