JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A fire Thursday morning at a house in the 5100 block of Timuquana Road has left eight people homeless.
There were six children and two adults inside the home when it caught fire around 9 Thursday morning.
Firefighters had to rescue a 58-year-old man who was trapped in a rear bedroom. He was taken to a local hospital where he is recovering.
"I kept trying to get back to the back of house and I could not," said Christy Chambers, whose father was later rescued by firefighters.
There were no other injuries reported but the home has been deemed a total loss.
The Red Cross is on hand assisting the family.
The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department has not yet determined the cause of the fire. Chambers, who escaped along with her children, says, "They are thinking one of the babies was playing with a lighter."
The family has lived in the home for five years.
