ATLANTA -- The former president of the nation's oldest black fraternity is suing the group over what he says was his unfair ouster in April over allegations of financial mismanagement.
Attorneys for Herman "Skip" Mason have filed a request for a temporary restraining order in DeKalb County Superior Court against Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., asking to reinstate him as head of the organization for the remaining six months of his term. The matter is scheduled for a hearing Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed July 19, Mason was ousted as the organization's 33rd general president at the fraternity's regional convention in Las Vegas after questions arose regarding use of fraternity funds for dependent care and tuition.
Mason has denied wrongdoing and says he has made arrangements to reimburse Alpha Phi Alpha.
