JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two suspects are in custody following a robbery at a Riverside Walgreens.

John Martin Spaulding, 21, and Victor Anthony Mackey, 22, have been charged with armed robbery.

According to Officer Shannon Hartley, it happened early Thursday morning at the corner of Park and King Streets.

When police arrived on the scene, Officer Hartley said officers heard gunshots being fired from inside the building.

Spaulding and Mackey rounded up the store's dozen patrons and demanded watches, cellphones and medications, said Chief Tom Hackney during a Thursday news conference.

Mackey was arrested without incident after exiting the front entrance, Hackney said.

Spaulding exited the back entrance of the store with a 9 mm high point handgun, Hackney said.

Officer Gerard S. Medlock, a 13-year-veteran of the JSO, fired at the suspect, but did not hit him. No one was injured.

Spaulding is believed to be involved in three other robberies and more charges are pending against him, according to Hackney.
