FAIR OAKS, Calif. -- The estranged wife of a man, who is accused of
murdering a Fair Oak's woman and leaving her home naked and covered in
the victim's blood, said the divorce and child custody issues were
taking a toll on the suspect's life.
"I just think it was -- it was getting to him and he just really
snapped and, unfortunately, the sad part is someone lost their life
because of it," said Erika Raya.
Raya and Mose "Moses" Trotter are still married but separated. They have two children together -- ages two and five.
"How do you tell a child that your Dad killed somebody and he's not
going to be around anymore?" Raya said. "No matter what he did right now
that's their Dad."
Raya learned about the murder at the Fair Oaks home after getting a
phone call from Trotter's sister. She then saw the story on the news.
"For him to actually take someone's life and do that it it was out of
character, so it wasn't believable to me until I actually seen (the
news story) with his picture."
Neighbors said Trotter broke into a Fair Oaks home through a window,
used a video game system then went swimming in the pool before heading
to Carol Sturgis' home.
According to Trotter's facebook page, he went to a service at New Life Community Church just hours before the murder.
Raya spoke with Trotter on Sunday and said it seemed like a "normal
conversation" that did not end well. She said Trotter would often call
her and say derogatory things to her and she would respond with mean
comments. On Sunday, she said "enough was enough" and told Trotter that
she would not allow him to see the children.
Raya said she feels badly about their conversation on Sunday, but
still doesn't understand what happened and worries about her daughters.
"I just think it's better we get our lives situated and move on from this," said Raya.
Trotter is being held at the Sacramento County Jail on a murder charge. He's scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
