ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The Florida Department of Corrections reports an inmate who escaped from the Florida State Prison system has been captured.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Dean R. Adams, 54, was arrested Sunday afternoon and booked into the St. Johns County jail.

The Department of Corrections said he escaped Saturday around 6:00 p.m.

Mark Samson with the St. Augustine Police Department said two AT&T employees were working in the area along Ponce de Leon Boulevard. He said they noticed a "beat up" vehicle from the Department of Corrections in the parking lot of the Merida Inn.

Samson said the two men remembered hearing news reports about an escaped prisoner and they called police.

St. Augustine Police officers went to the hotel manager and they inquired about the DOC vehicle.

Samson said the officers located Adams inside the hotel. Adams was arrested without incident.

The DOC website listed Adams as serving time for crimes committed in Duval, Brevard and St. Johns Counties.
