BAKER COUNTY, Fla. -- Bryant Thrift is a man defeated by nature. He tried his best to keep floodwaters away from his home.
He built up these sand barricades six feet high.
"Ain't never seen it get this high never. Usually when it floods we build a barricade up and it stops it. Not this time," he said.
Now, Thrift is taking down the sand to pump out the water.
Neighbors a couple miles away share similar stories -- homes flooded along the St. Marys River. Around 100 people evacuated, dozens of homes damaged.
"FEMA will come in and help us evaluate the damage. And that's where we are, trying to figure out how much damage there is," said Sheriff Joey Dobson.
