FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. -- State Representative Janet H. Adkins met Wednesday with the board of directors from JaxPort to discuss funding options for the St. Johns River Ferry.
Rep. Adkins, along with State Representative Mike Weinstein, addressed the board and requested they commit to fund ferry operations.
"This is a huge first step," Adkins said. "We are hoping in the next few weeks to get similar commitments from the Jacksonville City Council and the Florida Department of Transportation."
JaxPort announced they would commit $200,000 of funding toward the Ferry. The commitment to funding was agreed upon as long as supporters of the ferry and other sources, the Florida Department of Transportation and Jacksonville City Council, were able to secure the necessary funding, approximately $450,000.
